Managing Stress: practical self help psychology

Top tips for staying resourceful even in challenging times

Stress is endemic in modern life and work. For organisations, the impact on attendance, and the cost in terms of sickness absence can be high. For individuals, the consequence for our mental and physical health can be significant.

Stress can arise from specific life or work situations that challenge our ability to cope. It can also occur in response to background concerns and worries that we are perhaps not consciously aware of - health niggles, family matters, uncertainty in work, money worries, etc.

This course is designed to help us understand and take action at an individual level to reduce unhelpful stress, and to develop strategies that allow us to thrive in even challenging circumstances. It aims to assist participants to :-

  • understand the nature and causes of stress
  • become more aware their personal stress levels in order to deal with stress before it becomes a major problem
  • develop strategies to feel more in control
  • discover and practice ways of handling stressful situations in a positive way
  • protect themselves against everyday stresses using simple self care techniques

Course content is designed for educational and self help purposes. It is not intended as a substitute for medical advice, and you should always consult your doctor on all medical matters and conditions.
